For the 15th year, the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen will be the focal point of nine days of concerts, interpretation courses, seminars, lectures and discussions. Composers, interpreters, musicologists, sound projectionists and music lovers are cordially invited to attend the Stockhausen Concerts and Courses Kürten 2013.
Stockhausen’s motto for the 2013 courses is

Concerts
Instrumental, vocal and electronic works by Karlheinz Stockhausen will be performed in nine concerts. The concerts are performed by the faculty of the master classes, many of whom worked with Stockhausen for many years. Also internationally renowned guest musicians and ensembles will perform. In three concerts selected participants will perform compositions which were prepared during the master classes. All dress rehearsals are open to the participants of the courses.

Interpreters are requested to indicate on their application the works prepared. The faculty is willing to assist participants in preparing themselves for course attendance ahead of time. Interpreters will receive the respective faculty address after they have registered for participation.
INORI-gestures (Instructor: Alain Louafi) Due to the special significance given to the synthesis of music and gesture in Stockhausen’s works, the gestures from the composition INORI (1973–74) are rehearsed in this course. The course takes place each morning before the master classes and other events of the courses and is open to all interested participants.
Sound projection (Instructors: Kathinka Pasveer, sound projectionist; Igor Kavulek, sound engineer) The Center for Stockhausen Space Music offers a course for sound projectionists, sound engineers, musicians and music lovers which conveys information concerning aspects about the sound equipment and its set-up which must be taken into consideration when performing Stockhausen's electronic, vocal and instrumental works. Practical experience in the technical aspects of sound projection takes place in the context of the daily rehearsals and concerts.
Intuitive Music (Instructors: Ensemble für Intuitive Musik Weimar – Michael and Matthias von Hintzenstern, Daniel Hoffmann, Hans Tutschku) Since 1980, the Ensemble for Intuitive Music Weimar has dedicated itself to the interpretation of Stockhausen's in - tuitive music. In this seminar it deals with the special demands made on the interpreter by this group of works.
Seminars and open rehearsals

Prizes
For the best interpretations of Stockhausen works performed in the participants' concerts, three prizes
(4000 €, 2500 €, and 1500 €) will be awarded following the final concert. A prize may be divided among several musicians.
Location
Kürten is Stockhausen’s hometown, where he lived from 1965 to 2007. The "Stockhausen-Community" Kürten is situated about 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of Cologne in the part of Germany called the Bergisches Land. For the 15th time, the community of Kürten is allowing the Stockhausen Foundation for Music to use its school complex and community centre for the continuation of its annual Stockhausen Concerts and Courses Kürten. All of the concerts, courses, seminars and rehearsals take place at the school complex. Also the organisation office and the practice rooms are located at the school complex. The address is: Olpenerstraße 4, 51515 Kürten. The on-location organisation office will open at 9 a.m. starting on Thursday, August 1st 2013.

Tuition Fee
A fee of 325 € ($430) covers admission to all events and includes lodging reservation. Travel, lodging and meals are not included.

Zum 15. Mal steht die Musik Karlheinz Stockhausens für neun Tage im Zentrum von Konzerten, Interpretationskursen, Seminaren, Vorträgen und Diskussionen. Zu den Stockhausen-Konzerten und -Kursen Kürten 2013 sind Komponisten, Interpreten, Musikwissenschaftler, Klangregisseure und Musikliebhaber herzlich eingeladen.

Konzerte
In neun Konzerten werden instrumentale, vokale und elektronische Werke Karlheinz Stockhausens aufgeführt. Bei den Konzerten wirken die Dozenten der Meisterkurse mit, die oftmals viele Jahre mit Stockhausen zusammengearbeitet haben, aber auch international renommierte Gastmusiker und Ensembles. An drei Abenden spielen ausgewählte Kursteilnehmer Kompositionen, die im Rahmen der Meisterkurse einstudiert worden sind. Alle Generalproben sind für die Teilnehmer der Kurse offen.

Die Teilnehmer der Meisterkurse werden gebeten, bei der schriftlichen Anmeldung anzugeben, welche Werke aus dem Lehrangebot der Dozenten vorbereitet werden. Die Vorbereitung für die Meisterklassen wird schon vor den Kursen von den Dozenten unterstützt. Die Kontaktadressen werden nach der Anmeldung übermittelt.
INORI-Gesten (Leitung: Alain Louafi) Aufgrund der besonderen Bedeutung, die der Synthese von Musik und Gestik im Werk Stockhausens zukommt, werden in diesem Kurs die Gesten aus der Komposition INORI (1973–74) einstudiert. Der Kurs findet täglich morgens vor sämtlichen anderen Veranstaltungen statt und richtet sich an alle interessierten Teilnehmer.
Klangregie (Leitung: Kathinka Pasveer, Klangregisseur; Igor Kavulek – Toningenieur) Das Zentrum für Stockhausen-Raummusik bietet einen Kurs für Klangregisseure, Toningenieure, Musiker und Musikfreunde an, in dem vermittelt wird, welche Aspekte aus tontechnischer Sicht bei der Aufführung von Stockhausens elektronischen, aber auch vokalen und instrumentalen Werken zu berücksichtigen sind. Die klangtechnische Regiearbeit erfolgt im Zusammenhang mit den täglichen Proben und Konzerten.
Intuitive Musik (Leitung: Ensemble für Intuitive Musik Weimar – Michael und Matthias von Hintzenstern, Daniel Hoffmann, Hans Tutschku) Das Ensemble für Intuitive Musik Weimar widmet sich seit 1980 der Interpretation von Stockhausens Intuitiver Musik und befasst sich in diesem Seminar mit den interpretatorischen Besonderheiten dieser Werkgruppe.
Seminare und öffentliche Proben

Für die besten Interpretationen von Stockhausen- Werken in den Teilnehmerkonzerten verleiht die Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik nach dem Abschlusskonzert drei Preise in Höhe von 4000 €, 2500 € und 1500 €. Die Preise können auch auf mehrere Musiker aufgeteilt werden.
Ort
Kürten ist Stockhausens Heimatstadt, in der er von 1965 bis 2007 gelebt hat. Die Stockhausen-Gemeinde Kürten liegt etwa 30 km östlich von Köln im Bergischen Land und stellt der Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik bereits zum 15. Mal sein Schulzentrum und das Bürgerhaus für die Durchführung der Stockhausen- Konzerte und -Kurse Kürten zur Verfügung. Im Schulzentrum finden alle Abendkonzerte, Kurse, Seminare und Proben statt. Auch das Tagungsbüro und die Probenräume sind im Schulzentrum untergebracht. Die Adresse lautet: Olpenerstraße 4, 51515 Kürten. Das Tagungsbüro ist ab Donnerstag, dem 1. Teilnahmegebühr
Eine Gebühr in Höhe von 325 € ermöglicht die Teilnahme an allen Veranstaltungen. Darin ist die Vermittlung einer Unterkunft enthalten. Reise, Unterkunft und Verpflegung übernimmt jeder Teilnehmer selbst.

On November 14th 1994 the Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik (Stockhausen Foundation for Music) was ratified as a non-profit foundation having as its purpose
"the advancement of musicology including the stimulation of music culture,
based on the creative oeuvre of Professor Karlheinz Stockhausen"
( chapter 2, paragraph 2 of the foundation statutes ).
The Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik is in a position to realise this goal due to the unique value of the foundation's assets, which comprise an archive in which all biographical and musical stations of the composer are documented by way of composition sketches, scores, recordings, instruments, costumes and requisites, photograph albums and video films, theoretical essays by Karlheinz Stockhausen, and comprehensive scientific and journalistic studies in writing, on tape and film. Such a complete collection of the legacy of a composer also opens new paths and possibilities for research and science, in the spirit of the foundation statutes.
In August 1998, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen celebrated his seventieth birthday. On that occasion, the Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik, together with the community of Kuerten, and supported by the state of North Rhine Westfalia, organized the first Stockhausen Courses Kuerten. They took place for the first time from August 2nd - August 9th 1998 at the school complex in Kuerten, and were attended by over 130 composers, interpreters, musicologists and auditors from 23 different countries. Thus Stockhausen's dream of having a special place for the teaching of the unique performance practice necessary for his works, combined with the authentic performance of his works finally became reality: there were daily vocal and instrumental master classes, composition seminars, and concerts. Six concerts were given by the faculty (the performers with whom he has been collaborating for over 20 years) and 3 concerts were given by selected course participants. Stockhausen was the sound projectionist in all the concerts.
In 1999, the courses took place from July 18th - 25th, again attended by over 130 participants from 23 countries. About 25% of the participants attended for a second time, and 75% were new. In 2000, the third year of the courses, the State Ministry of Labour, Social Welfare and City Development, Culture and Sport will reduce its financial support, because it was able to help the courses get started, but the state of North Rhine Westfalia cannot support them as a permanent institution.
The support of friends and patrons is needed, in order to ensure the continuity, comprehensiveness and high level of training offered by the annual Stockhausen Courses Kuerten, and also to be able to present Stockhausen's music, art of interpretation, ideas, thoughts and observations to the general public in the form of symposia, composition seminars, courses by Stockhausen interpreters and concerts.
The Stockhausen-Stiftung für Musik requests that donations be made to help realise projects such as those mentioned above.
